Perhaps they are all out fishing.... Its just us online.
No seriously, I agree with you I think it could be the recession, there does seem to be less people on the bank |

Yes, I'm sure that this new rig will reignite things on the forum! Only kidding Mark.
I've not been posting much as I'm well busy at work and have been out doing quick overnighters wherever possible as I'm catching a few currently, which is nice. I reckon a lot of people are probably on holidays too, which obviously leads to less forum action. Regards, Damon. |

Hi Lads,
Same for me, busy at work and trying to convince other half to shorten forthcoming holiday so I can get in another session. With respect to the leech rig, I used a modded poly ball rig a couple of weeks ago to great effect with Leeches, so I'm sticking to that one for the mo'. Don't want to make life too confusing like as they were my first two Cats after many seasons of trying (only normally manage 4-5 trips a season !!) regards Mark |

All gone quite because of the recession gents!
Can't bloody afford to go fishing and there's just a general
air of gloominess, everybody is struggling.
Bloody weathers cr*p too
Too top it of my 4 day sess next week is cancelled as my m8 has to work & i cant afford it. I'll still get out but it will be on a rock hard, super cheap, low stock water where no doubt I'll just spend 3 - 4 days starring at the water and trying to catch a livebait worthy of using as bait before winching it out after the 8th attempt only for it to be snaffled by a 2pound jake!
Can anyone tell Ive got the hump today!

hurricane wrote: sorry jim .but keiths rig has totally different mechanics to mine mate .keith showed me his rig to at the a.g.m also , i explained to keith that i had a rig that worked also .the only simularity ,is that it envolves a single pollyball ,plus i was going to do an artical on the rig for the mag prior to the agm some months before ,but my father-in law passed away, and took priority over the artical ,so how could i possibly have known about keiths rig before then ,plus i too have been catching on it for over two years prior to me revealing it , i gota keep something to myself , to me even mentioning it to anyone would loose me the edge ,when you compare keiths rig to mine, you will see there is a lot of difference
. keiths rig envolves moveing the pollyball on a single length of tubeing to counteract the weight of the bait ,mine is a fixed polly ball set up ,that
envolves two different diamiters of tubeing ,and can be fished at any depth, from off the lead ,to right on the surface ,and i mean literally inches under the
water ,with either leech or worm , it takes a fine bit of tuneing to get it right if you want to put a bait just under the surface layers ,but the cats nail it
,and its such an explosive affair when they do ,its amaising .whoever told you my rig is like keiths hasnt looked properly .soz . saying that ,keith has done a
good job on his rig also .keith saw my rig at woodys also ,and knows also , he asked me if it could be used for live baits ,and i told him no ,the tubeing
involved for the construction of the rig isnt ridged enuf ,to stop tangles with live baits ,plus you cant get hold of the tubeing in the u.k very easy ,i am
currently trying to get it thru a plastic moldeing company .so how could i be a copy cat artist of keith .your friend needs to get glasses . sorry if that comes across harsh ,but i aint the type of bloke to take credit
of someone elses ideas .i hope keith will allow me, and himself, maybe , to put togeather, and share an artical ,on both our ideas, regarding our leech and
worm rigs ,for the 25th whiskers aniversary mag ,explaining the two good rigs and there mechanics , i hope people do well on them both ,keiths is a good rig,
as is mine .each to there own .atb jim .regards mark .

Well, the forum's certainly livened up since the mention of a new rig, however I suspect that this may not be unveiled until the next edition of Whiskers
-- understandably so with it being the 25th edition -- however, unless it also has the ability to attract more cats into your swim, I can't see how any
further 'edge' can be gained over the simple attachment of a poly-ball to the eye of the hook, which does the job absolutely fine from what I've
learned this season. I'm all for new rigs etc... but I still maintain that if you are in an area where cats are feeding, the rig plays second fiddle -- as
it were -- to having a bait presented to these fish and being able to land them successfully.

hiya damon .i totally agree mate .but leeches can be a pain sometimes to use as bait ,in the fact they latch on to anything ,the rig i put togeather simply
pushes them away from the main line ,thats all i does to be honest ,but it is versatile in the scence you dont have to fiddle around with the rig to ballance
it ,it set ,it casts well and is versatile ,you can attatch/unattach the rig via safe lock links ,so it can be winched out if fishing at extreme range
,[saves your £4 leeches flying off the hook when punching baits out ] ,and as stated previous ,it works at any depth ,from off the lead to literally on the
surface , the old mini dumbell rig [cork ball type set up ] was too fidly to try and ballance out properly with lead putty etc ,i know it caught fish ,but i
never really had confidence in the rig ,and haveing the pollyball sraight off the hook will always have me wondering wether the leeches are working or just
tied up in a knot around the main line ,but each to there own i say ,if it works for you ,and your confident in your rigs thats half the battle won. but your
dead right damon ,you can only catch them if there there ,no rig has a magic wand attached to them .atb .regards mark.

You may well be right Zygote, I don't feel qualified to comment on the Cat side of things because of my novice status.
That said, on my other chosen quarry - Zander, I've found that over the years I've gradually modded my rigs to their present day set up and my catch rate has also increased to the point where it's reasonably consistent. Bait presentation for those fellers can make all the difference as I know when I've sat next to my mate and compared run rates on the same bait, but different rigs. Part of the buzz I get from fishing be it for Cats, Trout, Zed or Barbel is making up my rigs, experimenting with different set ups and hopefully succeeding / increasing my catch rate. I don't know Cats well enough yet, but with Zeds, the single biggest factor is my experience is the weather and specifically pressure in terms of feeding habits, so I'm going to start a new post on that front. regards Marky Mark |
