If anyone has been out there recently, what was it like and is it worth the effort to go there? I look forward to any responses and help you can give regards Tefflon

As you probably know Kevin Maddocks and I spent many weeks targeting the big cats of Northern Italy a few years back including the lakes at Mantova and the River Mincio. It was a long time ago now and I guess things have changed a fair bit - I'm pretty sure there wasn't a World record in there when we fished it! I suggest you contact Luca Foroni, an old mate of mine who has a big specialist tackle shop at Goito near Mantova, details below. I was going to stay on a campsite in Mantova that was on the map I had purchased. it looked perfect being right on the river. When i got to Mantova though I could not find the campsite and was told by some locals it had never existed! I fished in one of the lakes though and they are beautiful places to fish - where I fished had giant beds of huge lilliy type plants. Livebaits were easy to catch - unfortinately the Cats were more difficult and i blanked. If i went again i would probably fish a little bit further down the river below the big weir in Mantova rather than above it. My trip was very haphazard as i went with the minimum of gear by easy jet and then train! I hope you have a good trip - it is certainly a nice area to fish. To Keith, Thanks for this info which is a massive help and I wil certainly contact Luca. I have just received a copy of your video (yes I still have one) which was very interesting, especially in the boat, as I was sure that someone was bound to go swimming!!! On our trip we plan to either hire or take a boat with us, as I did find a web site called the Mincio Boatmen and I have a contact in Italy talking to them for me.
