carpers only cottoned on to the distance thing in the mid 80s and started using them.
I got one , use it where I can.
Even made a radio controlled duck when they banned boats at Sywell , didnt work very well but was fun.

Pikers invented bait boats in the late 70s , thinking anglers- some of those early creations we made were a right laugh .Also had the rods 30/40 meters apart
on the ressys , those were the days !

Rob , we might have been a "marginal" group in the 80s but not now. Ok we are not as big as the karp thing yet , and match fishing I dunno , never
buy the comics but look at the other forums, P and P, Cemex, karp forums, any enquiry about catfish is always answered "try the ccg" .
look at the waters with cats now, every where you dont have to travel far for a 50 nowadays, look at the international scene look at the gear thats available to us, in the 80s we had to make stuff ourselves or adapt other gear, now you could get pretty much a full set up from the ccg shop and other outlets have specialist cat gear. No , we're not a marginal group now . |

Margin Man wroteHave you looked at the user profiles,ie how many online, most users, online in last 15 mins etc.We ARE still probably the most minor of the minority groups, outside of a small group of catfishing friends, most anglers i know have never seen a cat let alone caught one. |

Dave Aylett wrote:hi Dave, i was referring more to the use by catters of things not invented for catfishing and it was only a tongue in cheek comment to finish really mate. i particularly liked the fake duck effort Chris.. fantastic!.. I
remember the days when there used to be loads of balloons floating all around Northampton as well. .. alas, those days are well and truly gone now mate!
with regards to the CCG being a minority group or not; both good arguments chris and hurricane and as far as catfish are concerned the CCG is number one, no question imho, but that is as a specialist group. I doubt the day will come, at least not anytime soon, when catfish have the same recognition in the uk as say pike or $*%* but for me, i would be more than happy with that... i dont want catfishing to end up like $*%* fishing has.

Good point Hurricane , when you look at it that way theres not that many of us , but we are more high profile than other specialist groups, eg tenchfishers or
anguilla club. I like the ccg how it is ,I cant see it ever getting as big as the karp scene, well not in our lifetimes anyway.
Marc , I recall the balloons too , these days the hedges round Sywell are strewn with bags of dog poo. Chris |

Hurricane is right we are still a small group. The CCG Annual meeting always has a low turn out ,any catfish post on other sites gets few replies, usually its
one of the regulars on here telling people to visit this site.#$%* fishing is so massive now that most youngsters get straight into that. How often do you see
catfishing features in the bigger angling magazines, there aren't even that many in Pike and Predators. There are many more waters with cats in , but even
on these you don't find many dedicated Catfish Anglers.
When I fished in Spain ,most of the anglers I met were #$%* anglers after a trophy cat photo , few were interested in fishing for them in the UK. At the end of the day I quite like the fact that the CCG is a small group . As for fishing with pellets , most of my catfishing consists of overnighters ,short sessions grabbed when I have the time. I don't always have time to catch livebaits so pellets are an easier option. I fished at Horton Boat Pool using pellets and caught cats only, never any other species. On the Split Lake the Bream loved Halibut Pellets ,but on the nights I caught bream I usually had a catfish too ,so I wasn't bothered. I have no problem with pellets ,if using them gets cats on a venue ,thats what I will use.

Hi Marc,
Lol, I thought everyone knew animals have only got livers because catfish love the taste of them . Cheers, hope you had good one mate, I had a good season but didn't catch
too many cats, I was using traditional methods whilst everyone else was catching loads on pellets !!, no really I fished some hard waters and did even use
pellets at times, the cats do like eating them and I do want to catch them, thats why I go, and I still considered myself catting when I used them. Rob,
wanted to know why people say it's not proper and I think that's the reason, some people just don't like them and stick with the 'old'
traditional ways lol, that's just the way they see it .. Good luck with the piking mate, let's hope it's a good one, Jilesy.

Lots of good points on here - i have never caught a Cat on pellet as i can't bring myself to sacrifice one of the live bait rods!

And on the same subject why do they fish with their rods 3inches apart with the reel handles folded in ?
Also what does the term " flatrodded " mean. Chris. |

My biggest issue with carpies is that few of them understand how to use bite indicators correctly. Having a range of 200 metres doesn't mean they can sit
200 metres away necking down beer whilst the rods fish themselves. You don't need to check that they work every 30 minutes and that the volume control can
be lowered from the max setting frequently used. A few months back I asked one why he had both the head and control box volume of his Delkim TXi+'s on
maximum volume when he was sat near them. He replied 'in case one didn't work'. Only a carpie would think like that !
