nath sorry to hear you,ve been banned for using liveys, glad mr lennon thinks it,s funny, at the end of the day you would,nt have been the only one using
liveys at woodys or any other water you should,nt really use em , but maybe you were to open with them, but i don,t think it,s funny, and don,t think it,s a
sin telling someone you had it on a leech when you never,.

now dont get me wronge ,yes what young nath did was wronge ,as i dont agree with breaking fishery rules now ,all fisheries employ rules for there own reasons
,but you name any angler that hasnt bent the rules a bit ,we have all done it in the past [some still do ,and regular].nath sorry to hear the news about the
ban. and i agree with glen ,i dont think certain people laughing about it is very nice ,considering the amount of money the lad has lost etc ,i dont know the
full details involved ,but ,i feel it just unfortunate he didnt get just a slap on the wrist ,considering it was probably his first offence ,a total ban is a
bit o.t.t . never mind ,theres plenty of other waters down south ,i know nath loved woodys ,i too enjoyed the time i fished there, good bunch of lads on there
at the time ,maybe a phone call to the fishery owners and a bit of humble pie will get you back on the lakes nath ...atb mate .

There is a lesson here somewhere! Don't give away too much info on a forum! You are right Msatch there is a lot of
rule bending when it comes to livebaits on fisheries with catfish in , I have visited fisheries where the locals use livebaits when they are banned . If you get a fishery that is stuffed with small fish and you can here them feeding on fish in the night ,it must be tempting to stick a livebait out.It is a shame this lad has been banned from the fishery. |

right lets clear things up 1st of all i havent been baned from the lake where i had the 67 from i jus got a warning 2ndly as far as i know i havnt been banned from woodys ethier i never got caught using livies at woodys so i dnt why i would be banned.i dnt know where mr lennon is geting his info from but it sounds to me like hes just jealous.Thanks for the surport though lads and dnt worry Simon ive leanrt my lesson atb |

As someone who has worked on a fishery I'm afraid i dont agree with the statement that Nath should have got a'slap on the wrist' and that a total ban would have been 'OTT' - at the end of the day a fishery has to protect its stock - THATS THE REASON PEOPLE PAY MONEY TO GO THERE! letting someone get away with using lives when they are banned simply sends the wrong message to others, it may be that the lives used are caught on site but it may also be the case that they have been brought in - and that is where the problem lies. we all know of the problems (and illegality) of moving fish without a permit as we are intelligent and experienced anglers. Nath, its a great capture, consider yourself lucky to get a warning and learn that lesson!! I for one have seen people breaking rules on fisheries (including the use of lives when they are banned) but its not up to me to rat people out, and i certainly wouldn't do it on an open forum, just stating some facts here folks! |

I don,t normally add my two penneth but on this subject i am , If and it is an If Nat used livebait on either water mentioned he is in the wrong to go against the fishery rules, but that is not really my point , what I can,t understand is why these fisheries stock Wels Catfish in there fisheries for us to presumabley catch, why can,t we fish for them with there natural food source FISH ! , as long as the live bait is caught from the lake you are fishing what is the problem. Obviously no fish should be transfered from any fishery at anytime without the relevent paperwork but I would like to think that all CCG members would not even consider this as fish conservationists. If there are any fishery managers / owners reading this could you please explain to me the reasons you have on your water to ban live baits , many thanks And come on lads give Nat a break , he is a very good fisherman who catches where others blank and does,nt deserve all this flack. Here, here. Must agree that the banning of livebaits seems to defeat the object of predator fishing in the first place to be fair. Rather like if a trout
fishery decided to have a 'no flies' rule.

I totally understand the arguments about cats being predators however MOST fisheries that hold cats have them as a secondary species to the much loved(!!) %!%$
and so they are not 'predator' fisheries as such. The ban is not designed to stop people catching the cats it is purely there to minimise the risk of
anyone bringing live fish onto the site and releasing them into the lake.
I totally agree that catching a live bait from the lake you are fishing holds no problem with regard to fishery health but its the risk of people bringing lives with them because they cant be bothered to catch one. as soon as you allow lives you open yourself up to that risk. Forward thinking fishery managers would have a stock of silvers from their own lake in a tank that they sell to cat anglers who want to use lives. Sell them cheap so its not worth going through the hassle of bringing in your own and use little 'silver fish only' matches to replenish your stocks. to be honest, from my own experience of being a manager of a large fishery it doesnt matter what rules you have people will try to break them, the key is taking the right action when you catch someone. for me if you break the rules you get banned - its the only way to send a message to other anglers that rule breaking will not be tolerated. its not popular with everyone but it tends to be less popular with people who you dont want at your fishery anyway!! all the best Ben |
