Just returned from a totally blank lure fishing session (nothing new there then my mates would say) & can't help but think that the cats may be in
spawning mode here in Spain.
I have witnessed cats spawning a few times here & wondered if anybody else has.
The places i find them tend to have the following features in common.
They tend to be near deep fast flowing well oxygenated pools where a snags have washed up & collected large rafts of weed, which i think the cats use to construct?? their nests from.
IE bridge supports, jetties, back eddies on bends etc & at the tail of pools.
When i have found them there tends to be numerous fish breeding in the same spot, could this be a male fish on the nest being visited by numbers of females? or conversely could it be a female in season attracting the males to her? is it just that they all seem to like the same spot or do they have a communal love fest??
Whatever the reason they do seem to be extremely aggressive at this time of year with numbers of them carrying scars.
Anybody else seen this & if so where & in what circumstances & what was their behavior like.
Cheers.
David
